Loved First, Loved Fully, Loved Forever

A gentle reflection on the everlasting love of God and how His perfect love casts out fear

Valentine’s Day comes around each year wrapped in flowers, cards, and reminders of love. For some, it’s joyful. For others, it can feel complicated, tender, or even quiet.

But long before love was ever celebrated on a calendar, it existed in its purest form.

Before we loved God, He loved us.
Before we understood love, He demonstrated it.
Before we reached for Him, He drew us close.

Scripture tells us something both simple and life-changing: you were loved first.

Loved First: Drawn by Everlasting Love

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”Jeremiah 31:3

There is something deeply reassuring about the words everlasting love.

Not temporary. Not dependent on circumstances. Not here one moment and gone the next.

Everlasting.

It means God’s love for you did not begin the day you acknowledged Him. It did not begin when you became stronger, wiser, or more faithful. It was already there — steady, patient, and unchanging.

He did not draw you with pressure or force, but with lovingkindness.

Even in seasons when you felt unsure of yourself…
Even in moments when you questioned your worth…
Even in the quiet spaces where no one else could see…

His love remained.

God’s love is not fragile. It does not withdraw when you struggle. It does not diminish when you fall short. It continues to draw you — gently, consistently — closer to His heart.

You were never an afterthought. You were always someone He loved.

Loved Fully: Learning Love From Its Source

“We love Him because He first loved us.”1 John 4:19

Everything we know about love begins here.

We did not create love. We received it.

The reason your heart responds to kindness…
The reason encouragement strengthens you…
The reason love has the power to heal and restore…

Is because love originated with Him.

His love teaches us how to love — not just Him, but others, and even ourselves.

Sometimes we think we must earn love. That we must prove ourselves worthy of it. But Scripture gently reminds us that God loved us first.

Before achievement.
Before perfection.
Before striving.

His love became the foundation. And from that foundation, we learn to live, to grow, and to love in return. Read more about this in Rooted in Him.

Love Made Visible: The Gift of Jesus

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”John 3:16

God’s love was not only spoken. It was demonstrated.

He gave His Son, Jesus Christ — not as a symbol, but as a sacrifice.

Jesus, who knew no sin, stepped into our brokenness so that we could be restored. He carried what we could not carry ourselves. He made a way where there was none.

This is what makes God’s love so extraordinary.

It is not distant. It is not abstract. It is personal.

It sees you fully.
It knows you completely.
And it chooses you still.

Through Jesus, we see love in its clearest form — a love that restores, redeems, and brings us back into relationship with the One who created us.

This is love that does not give up.
Love that does not turn away.
Love that remains.

Loved Forever: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.”1 John 4:18

Perfect love does something powerful: it removes fear.

Fear tells us we are not enough.
Fear tells us we may be abandoned.
Fear tells us love can be lost.

But God’s perfect love speaks something better.

It reminds us that we are secure. That we are held. That we are not walking through life alone.

His love is not based on our performance. It is based on His nature.

And because His nature does not change, His love does not change.

When you begin to truly understand His love, fear begins to loosen its grip. You no longer live striving to earn what has already been freely given. You begin to live from a place of peace — knowing you are already loved, already seen, already known.

Perfect love does not create anxiety. It creates rest.

It allows you to breathe. To trust. To live with quiet confidence in the One who loves you completely.

Valentine’s Day may come and go, bringing its cards, its flowers, and its reminders of love. And those expressions are meaningful in their own way.

But there is a greater love that is not confined to a single day.

It is present in every season.
It remains in every circumstance.
It holds you in every moment.

So whether this Valentine’s Day finds you surrounded by loved ones or sitting in quiet reflection, this remains true:

You were loved first.
You are loved fully.
And you will be loved forever.

Not because of what you have done.
But because of who He is.

And His perfect love never fades.
