🌸Some Words Carry More Than We Realise
There are moments in life
where joy and need exist at the same time.
Moments where we are grateful…
and yet still longing.
Where we recognise something good…
and yet quietly whisper, help me.
And Palm Sunday holds that exact tension.
Because the cry of Hosanna
was never just celebration.
It was something deeper.
A word spoken with raised voices and open hearts—
yet carrying within it
a longing that had not yet been resolved.
And maybe that’s why it still speaks to us now.
Because we, too, know what it is
to praise…
and to need…
at the very same time.
🌿 Hosanna Is More Than a Word
The word Hosanna means:
“save us.”
And yet, on Palm Sunday,
it was spoken as praise.
“Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
— Matthew 21:9
This is what makes it so powerful.
Because Hosanna is not one thing.
It is both:
- a cry for salvation
- and a recognition of the Saviour
A reaching…
and a receiving
A need…
and a knowing
“Hosanna is both a cry for help
and a song of praise.”
🌸 The Kind of Triumph That Didn’t Look Like Power
Palm Sunday is often remembered
as a triumphant entry.
Crowds gathered.
Voices lifted.
Branches laid down.
But this was not triumph
as the world understands it.
There was no display of power.
No force.
No victory in the way people expected.
And yet…
there was a deeper joy.
Because Christ entered Jerusalem
knowing exactly what lay ahead.
The cross.
The suffering.
The weight of it all.
And still…
He came.
🌿He Came Knowing—And Still, There Was Joy
There is a quiet, profound truth here
that we don’t always sit with long enough.
Jesus did not walk toward the cross reluctantly.
He came knowing.
Knowing the weight of it.
Knowing the cost.
Knowing exactly where the road would lead.
And still—
He came willingly.
“For the joy set before Him…” — Hebrews 12:2
“He came knowing the cost—
and still, He came with joy.”
Not because the cross was easy,
but because of what it would accomplish.
Salvation.
Restoration.
Reconciliation.
You.
Palm Sunday is not only the beginning of suffering…
it is the beginning of fulfilled purpose.
A moment where heaven and earth
move toward redemption together.
And within that movement,
there was joy.
Not loud or triumphant as the world defines it,
but deep.
Steady.
Unshaken.
The kind of joy
that comes from love fully given.
🌸 He Received Them As They Were
The people cried Hosanna
without fully understanding what they were saying.
They welcomed Him as King—
but did not yet understand
the kind of King He would be.
And still—
He received them.
“God receives you
before your faith feels complete.”
This is grace.
Because it means
your faith does not have to be complete
to be received by God.
You can come:
- with questions
- with partial understanding
- with a heart still learning
And still be welcomed.
🌿 We Still Speak This Way Today
We may not stand in a crowd
laying branches before Him—
but we still speak Hosanna
in our own ways.
It looks like:
- whispering a prayer when you don’t have the words
- choosing to trust when you don’t have clarity
- showing up with faith that feels small
It looks like saying:
“I see You…”
and
“I need You…”
in the same breath.
And maybe that is more honest
than we realise.
🌸 YOU DON’T HAVE TO SEPARATE YOUR FAITH FROM YOUR NEED
Sometimes we think
we need to be strong in faith
before we come to God.
That we must choose:
- either confidence
- or need
But Hosanna shows us
we were never meant to separate them.
You can bring both.
Your praise.
Your uncertainty.
Your gratitude.
Your longing.
And trust that He receives it all.
🌿 What Is Your Hosanna Today?
What is your Hosanna today?
Where in your life
are you quietly saying—
“Lord, I see You…”
and
“Lord, I need You…”
You don’t have to resolve it.
You don’t have to perfect it.
You only need to bring it.
“You can bring both—
and He will receive you.”
🌸He Still Comes the Same Way
Palm Sunday is not just a moment of celebration.
It is a moment of recognition.
A reminder that the One
who came in humility…
came for you.
And even now,
you are still invited
to bring your own Hosanna…
not polished,
not perfected,
but real.
Because He still comes.
He still receives.
He still saves.
If you want to sit with this more deeply,
I’ve written a Palm Sunday poem on Hosanna…
a quiet reflection on the same truth
held here.
